Everyone was in a positive mood Saturday, August 27th. We were all excited for the Ralph Gracie Seminar. For those of you who don't know who Ralph Gracie is, he is the grandson of the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Carlos Gracie. He is also Mikyo's Professor.
Ralph started the seminar off with a joke. He called Mikyo and told him that he had gotten the days mixed up so he was going to be late by 1 hour. Mikyo hung up the phone with Ralph and asked the 35 students to gather around. He explained that Ralph was on his way, but he was going to be an hour late. As Mikyo was explaining this, Ralph walks into the school. Aparently Ralph has as soft spot for pranks on Mikyo.
It was a very special seminar at MarinMMA because Mikyo was able to share with his students his own upbringing in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu culture with Ralph Gracie. MIkyo was one of the very first students to receive all of his belts from Ralph (blue to black). Through the moves that Ralph showed, you saw a glimpse of the rough journey that Mikyo took to receive his black belt from Ralph Gracie. The moves Ralph taught focused a lot on pressure, control, and making your opponent as helpless as possible.
We didn't just see where Mikyo came from, but we also saw his accomplishments paying off today. Mikyo was promoted his first degree by Ralph Gracie on Saturday at the end of the seminar. We are all very proud of Mikyo and his new accomplishment. Make sure to congratulate him!
